Today is a Tuesday when I contribute to the blog 66 books in a year. We are reading through the Bible in a year. Below you’ll find the post I did for this morning. Hope it is a good read for you.
Isaiah 16:3-5, 3“Give counsel;
make your shade like night
at the height of noon;
shelter the outcasts;
do not reveal the fugitive;
4let the outcasts of Moab
sojourn among you;
be a shelter to them
from the destroyer.
When the oppressor is no more,
and destruction has ceased,
and he who tramples underfoot has vanished from the land, 5 then a throne will be established in steadfast love,
and on it will sit in faithfulness
in the tent of David
one who judges and seeks justice
and is swift to do righteousness.” (English Standard Version)
In the midst of these oracles comes three verses of freshness and hope. The putting right of things that seem to go wrong. The righting of injustices. First the reader is called to provide that for those that suffer around him, then it is acknowledged that it only can come eventually from God who will some day set up His kingdom on this earth and then usher us into His eternal kingdom. Then there will be true justice and righteousness. No one will go un-noticed. We will all be dealt with in fair and just ways. In a sense it is a fore-taste of Romans 8. But that comes later this year.
There are times when it seems nothing goes right. When I experience life’s injustices. Compared to the injustice millions of people experience around the world mine is minor in comparison. Yet, we are called to exercise justice and to be on the side of right. That can be hard to do. There are times when I fall short, when those around me do, when our institutions of government do. But there is inside me a yearning and a groaning for the day when everything will be right. The orphan will be fathered, when those seeking justice will have it. Although that is in the future, I can get glimpses of it now and I can be part of making it happen now because I am part of God’s kingdom.
Father God help me to be Your instrument of justice and rightness in the world. And when I fail or experience the injustices of life first hand let those times be reminders to me that a day is coming when You will put all things right. I pray these things in Jesus Name, Amen.
